When I am not drinking oat flat whites, I am dreaming about my next one. The velvety micro-foam, the biscuity sweetness, and that essential hit of caffeine make for the perfect brew. If you are like me, you will want to know exactly where to find the best oat flat whites in Santiago de Chile.…

If you are a regular reader of my blog, you will notice I have something of an obsession with flat whites, specifically oat milk flat whites. Every time I visit someplace new, not only do I need to suss out the local vegan food scene, but I also need to find my fix of oat flat whites.

Finding decent oat milk (leche de avena), thus oat flat whites, has so far been pretty tough in some parts of South America, but thankfully not in Santiago de Chile. The city is a real vegan hotspot, and I was so impressed with the quality of the coffee here.

Most of all, I have Nude to thank for that – a Brazilian oat milk brand, similar to Oatly. I actually first discovered Nude in Colombia, sold in supermarkets, but I never saw it used in any coffee shops there. It wasn’t until I arrived in Chile that I realised just how well it steams, and I’d say it is easily up there with Oatly.

This is by no means a list of ALL the coffee shops that serve oat milk, just the best ones that I found during my week-long stay in Santiago de Chile. Many places still only serve soy or almond milk, so finding oat milk has been a positive for me. And chatting with baristas around the city, I got the impression they were excited to be using it!

ID COFFEE

Located in the Ñuñoa neighbourhood, right next to Barrio Italia, this is a super specialist coffee shop that clearly takes coffee very seriously. They have a wide variety of coffee beans to choose from, which you can have prepared as a filter coffee right on the counter whilst you watch.

They also have a machine for making all milk-based coffees, like an oat flat white. They use Nude oat milk here, with the creamiest foam I have experienced so far in Santiago, which complements the nuttiness of their coffee blend. Overall, it was an impressively tasty brew!

The cherry on top was that the coffee shop smelt absolutely incredible. The aromas wafting around the room were almost intoxicating, and I really wish I had a place like this on my doorstep back home.

Singular Coffee Roasters

The second best oat flat white I had in Santiago came from Singular Coffee Roasters, a specialist shop with three locations across the city. When I visited, they did not have a flat white on the menu, nor did they advertise their oat milk, but I am so glad I asked.

I first visited their Lastarria location and loved perching outside on the wooden stools to enjoy the morning sun. It proved to be a great spot for people watching whilst I sipped on a perfectly balanced brew made with Nude oat milk.

Once I realised they had a few other venues dotted around the city hotspots, they quickly became my go-to. Their branches are close to most of the top tourist attractions, which you can find in my guide to the best things to do in Santiago de Chile.

La Jungla

La Jungla was the very first coffee shop I visited when I arrived in Santiago, and the oat flat white there did not disappoint! It was really creamy, with the perfect foam and just the right size for a flat white.

The cafe itself is half plant shop, half coffee shop, selling a variety of plants, gardening tools, coffee, and ice cream. Quite the mix. But it makes for a beautiful space!

It is outdoor-only seating, in a shared courtyard space. It is a great spot for relaxing and chatting with friends, but not very work-friendly.

Gata Negra

Gata Negra (called Cafetería y panadería Gata Negra on Google Maps) is a fully vegan coffee shop and bakery located near Barrio Italia, situated next to a beautiful park.

The oat flat white, whilst not my favourite in Santiago, was pretty decent with a good flavour and level of creaminess. It paired nicely with a slice of cake from their bakery.

They have a small amount of bar seating inside, but a few tables outside. This outdoor seating is perfect in the morning, as you can watch over the park and enjoy the sun! Here are some more fully vegan food spots in Santiago de Chile.
