There is no shortage of pizza in Florence, Italy. But the vegan pizza options are pretty dire. I spent a month searching for all the best vegan pizza options in Florence, and these are the ones that came out tops!

Whilst Italy is the home of pizza, it isn’t the most vegan-friendly of destinations. So, you unfortunately won’t be swimming in vegan pizza options. And Florence, the beautiful historic capital city of the Tuscany region, is no exception.

That being said, it isn’t impossible to locate vegan food in and around Florence. But choices aren’t as varied as you’d expect in other cities across Europe. Despite this, this doesn’t mean you will miss out on tasty Italian food, including pizza!

There are a variety of pizzerias across Florence offering dedicated vegan pizzas and vegan cheese substitutes. I ate my way round all the offerings to create this best vegan pizza in Florence guide!

Please note, none of these pizzerias are 100% vegan. There are a few 100% vegan food spots across Florence which you should definitely check out also, find out more here! Whilst you are in Tuscany I also urge you to check out the 100% vegan hotel, Agrivilla i Pini.

Two vegan pizzas at pizzium - one of the best vegan pizzas in Florence, Italy

Pizzium

Topping my list is Pizzium. There are a few reasons why it deserves this positioning. First and foremost, is because of their vegan cheese. It is surprisingly stringy and flavourful, and makes a change from the grated mass produced vegan cheese you’ll see on the other pizzas below. I imagine they make it themselves.

On top of this, the pizza is incredibly flavourful. I ordered the Calabria, which came with a variety of veg and a chilli oil on top, which I ordered with their vegan cheese. It was hands down one of the best vegan pizzas I’ve had in a long time!

But the greatness doesn’t stop there. They are also one of the only places to actually have a vegan pizza marked on their menu, rather than a list of their pizzas with the option to sub for vegan cheese. Because of this, I felt a lot more comfortable with my order being fully vegan-friendly.

Two vegan charcoal pizzas at SimBIOsi - one of the best vegan pizzas in Florence, Italy

SimBIOsi

SimBIOsi is a popular organic restaurant with a dedicated pizzeria, which is situated opposite their deli/restaurant (which isn’t particularly vegan-friendly).

I went there a few times and the pizza was always well-made and flavourful. I particularly enjoyed the dough here. They once had a limited edition charcoal pizza base which was delicious!

Their pizza is made directly in front of the seating area, which is great to watch. But it does mean it can get pretty sweaty in there!

A vegan pizza with fake meat at New Bridge Pizza Club - one of the best vegan pizzas in Florence, Italy

New Bridge Pizza Club

If you are after a vegan pizza in Florence with fake meats, then head on down to New Bridge Pizza Club, the only spot I was able to find that offered this. The vegan meat they use is one that I would buy from the supermarket, a chewy pastrami style product. It adds a good chew to the pizza and some extra protein!

Like most of the vegan-friendly Florence pizzerias on this list, they don’t have a specific vegan pizza, but you can swap in vegan cheese and vegan meat to their pizzas.

It was nice to have a meaty pizza, but I wasn’t the biggest fan of their dough.

A vegan margarita pizza at Pizzeria Giovanni Santarpia - one of the best vegan pizzas in Florence, Italy

Pizzeria Giovanni Santarpia

Situated outside of the main city centre is this very popular pizzeria, typically full of locals. I can see why it is so popular, the dough is amazing!

The vegan margherita was a little plain but they did have a vegan-friendly sauce (I believe it was courgette) that was packed full of flavour.

They also have a few vegan-friendly desserts, including a deliciously rich chocolate Pistocchi. And all the options are clearly marked as vegan.

Two vegan pizettes at Ganza - one of the best vegan pizzas in Florence, Italy

Pizzeria al taglio Ganza

If you are looking for a quick bite to eat then head over to Ganza, a pizzeria offering pizzettes to go. They are ready to order and can be eaten on the stools inside or as you wander the beautiful streets of Florence.

The vegan options aren’t the most exciting, but the tomato sauce is particularly flavourful. And the staff were kind enough to add some extra toppings to my pizzettes to make them more exciting.

I would recommend ordering a couple because they are pizzettes, therefore a little diddy. Unless you are just looking for a snack!

Two vegan pizzas on the square at Mister Pizza - one of the best vegan pizzas in Florence, Italy

Mister Pizza

If you are craving a bite to eat whilst exploring all the tourist hotspots in Florence, then you’ll be happy to know there is a pizza place located just outside the Duomo with vegan cheese!

It isn’t the best pizza in the world and the vegan cheese isn’t exciting, but it is very convenient. Plus it gives you that ‘eating on an Italian square’ experience.

Like most, there is no ‘vegan pizza’, but the option to swap for vegan cheese.
