Estrid review: Is their razor worth the hype? (2026)

After a year-long experiment with a safety razor and countless chunks of skin taken out of my leg, I decided it was finally time to go back to a cartridge razor. Annoyingly, whilst they’re easier to use, cartridge razors are usually much less sustainable (thanks to the disposable blades), and the reusable handles never seem to last me long.

That’s what drew me to Estrid’s brightly coloured, reusable steel-handled razors. They offer vegan-friendly cartridges and claim to be a lot more sustainable than your average reusable razor.

I bought my Estrid razor about a year ago and have been using it weekly ever since. In this Estrid review, I’ll break down my experience, covering shave quality, durability, sustainability, and pricing.

What is Estrid?

Estrid is a razor subscription brand based in Sweden that offers razors designed for all bodies. The starter kit includes a steel handle, two five-blade cartridges, and a wall holder, all delivered in plastic-free packaging.

The lubrication strip on the razor heads is completely vegan and cruelty-free, as are their other products (including their deodorant and body care products).

Additionally, they offer a range of body care products, including shaving gel, body lotion, and exfoliants. More recently, they also launched a refillable vegan deodorant (which I love) – check it out here

My experience

As mentioned, I have been using my Estrid razor for at least a year now. It has served me well on my travels and kept my legs and pits lovely and smooth. Now I feel I have all the experience necessary to write this thorough Estrid review. I will be covering my thoughts on quality, sustainability and the price.

The quality of the shave

I am a big fan of the Estrid cartridges. They are made with 5 blades and a vegan-friendly lubrication strip. The blades themselves are sharp and provide a clean cut. I have never nipped my skin with them, and the lubricating strip helps the blades to glide across my skin. This means I rarely get bumps or ingrown hairs!

It is also really easy to use, especially in comparison to a safety razor. It glides across the skin and can get into all the niggly areas, like your pits and bikini line, with zero issues.

My skin is left feeling silky smooth after each use. I have pretty sensitive skin and have found the lubricating strip to be gentle enough, so I don’t get any rashes or itching.

The quality of the razor

The razor itself is well built. The handle is made out of steel and has a good weight to it in your hand. Which, for me, makes it easier to use. But you can also tell that it’ll stand the test of time.

The only thing that has started to happen to mine after 1 year is a slight chipping away of the colour around the handle. But this is quite subtle and probably not helped by the fact that I travel with it, and so don’t keep it in the provided wall holder.

And when it comes to the blades, they stay sharp enough that I can use each cartridge around 8 times. Which is a lot more than the average disposable razor I’ve tried!

The sustainability

While sustainability isn’t Estrid’s main marketing message, it is mentioned throughout their website, and it’s what initially drew me to their razor. There are areas where Estrid stands out compared to other cartridge razors: the lubrication strip contains no animal by-products, the handle is made of sturdy steel, and the shipping packaging is entirely plastic-free.

That said, the blade cartridges themselves are still made of plastic and aren’t recyclable. They also come individually packed in small plastic pots, which adds to the waste.

So, whilst Estrid is a more sustainable option than most cartridge razors, it doesn’t compare to a safety razor, where the only waste is a thin strip of metal.

Still, it’s a step in the right direction, and far better than any other reusable razor I’ve used or come across. And, importantly, it’s much easier to use than a safety razor (which, for me, is anything but “safe”).

The price

Women’s razors are notoriously expensive (look up ‘Pink Tax’). Most reusable razors cost around £10-20 and only come with one blade. Moreover, they are poorly made, and the replacement cartridges will cost you an arm and a leg.

Estrid was built on the principle that body care should be fairly priced, no matter your gender. And considering the quality and superiority of their product, it is impressive that they have managed to price it lower than the main razor brands you find in pharmacies and supermarkets (think Gillette).

Estrid review verdict

Despite it not being as sustainable as my old safety razor, I have become a complete Estrid convert. I appreciate that they are always on the lookout for ways to make their product offering more sustainable, and hopefully, we’ll see a recycling scheme brought out soon for their disposable razor heads.

The reason I love this razor so much is the sturdy steel handle, which has so far stood the test of time (meaning less waste), and the beautiful, smooth shave that I get from it (thanks to the 5 sharp blades and vegan-friendly lubrication strip).

Moreover, it is way cheaper than the average reusable razor and will last me much longer. Plus, ordering replacement blades doesn’t cost me an arm and a leg.

The cherry on top of the cake is the beautiful design. I am a little obsessed with how good this razor looks!

I would recommend this to anyone looking for a reasonably priced razor that provides a silky smooth shave and a more sustainable alternative to the much more flimsy alternatives on the market. They also sell a face razor for all the bearded folks reading this!
