One of my favourite things is overhearing someone eating vegan food and remarking, “I would never have known that was vegan” – particularly when it comes to baked goods such as cakes, cookies, pastries, and bread.
It’s not that vegan food is inferior, it’s just that we’ve had lots of catching up to do with the centuries of animal-based baking traditions. With the quality of vegan food coming out of these bakeries, I’d say we’ve successfully caught up. Who knows, thanks to the ingenuity of humans, maybe one day we’ll even surpass what has come before.
So, don’t miss out on the surprises that these London vegan bakeries have in store for you! Enjoy anything from sourdough bread, focaccia, and flaky pastries to ice cream, cakes and cookies.

Beaten by a Whisker
- Location: Walthamstow
- Type: Bakery with sourdough breads, focaccia, and sweet baked goods
- Diet: 100% vegan
My favourite bakeries are the ones that lure you in off the street with the smell of freshly baked bread. Beaten by a Whisker is one of those. They make all their bread and baked goods on-site, so some incredible smells waft through the cafe space.
They offer a selection of handmade sourdough loaves (I highly recommend taking one home with you), sourdough focaccias topped with seasonal ingredients, and seasonal sweet baked goods, like frangipane, loaf cakes and brownies. Everything is 100% vegan, of course!
Their coffee is also delicious, making this place one of my favourite vegan cafes in London! I love sitting in the window with one of their freshly baked offerings and a peanut latte. I could sit here for hours with a good book, gradually eating my way through their vegan cakes.
Okja
- Location: Spitalfields
- Type: Bakery with a variety of pastries, like croissants and cinnamon rolls
- Diet: 100% vegan
Adding to the already great roster of vegan establishments around East London, is this fully vegan bakery, Okja. They bake all of their vegan pastries, cookies, and cakes on-site. You can even see the bakers in action when you buy something from the counter.
They offer the best variety of vegan croissants, including sweet and savoury options. They are buttery and fluffy. And I know vegans always say this, but I mean it when I say you wouldn’t know these are vegan! As well as their pastries, they have cookies with a few gluten-free options also. You may also be lucky and get your hands on one of their freshly baked cinnamon rolls – be quick!
Unfortunately, they don’t have any indoor seating, so you either need to take it away or sit on one of their benches outside. I recommend ordering a coffee and perching on the benches outside, watching the world pass by.
Check out even more places you can get your hands on some tasty vegan croissants in London.
DAPPA
- Location: Brick Lane
- Type: Soft serve ice cream with toppings
- Diet: 100% vegan
Whenever I am craving ice cream I go to DÁPPA. They make fully vegan soft serve ice cream from nuts. The soft serve is so creamy and smooth and goes amazingly well with their selection of plant-based toppings, like Biscoff.
Their main offering is their vegan soft serve but they often have multiple toppings for you to choose from. Occasionally they do limited edition ice creams with other amazing vegan brands, like Love Raw.
Their Brick Lane stall is temporarily closed but you can find their soft serve in the following locations. I believe they shut their stall on Brick Lane during the colder months, so make sure to come back in the summer!
Floozie
- Location: Covent Garden
- Type: Stuffed cookies
- Diet: 100% vegan
A fully vegan cookie shop may sound like a dream, but I can assure you, it really does exist! This cute (and very Instagrammable) cafe is situated inside Covent Garden, so is a great spot to take a break from a day’s sightseeing or shopping.
They offer a variety of different stuffed cookies and usually have a seasonal special on offer, like their pumpkin and cream cheese stuffed cookie over Autumn. You can also expect these cookies throughout the year: Cinnamon Crunch Cookie, Chocolate Chunk Cookie, PB & J Cookie, Triple Chocolate, and Pecan Pie Cookie.
The cafe has plenty of space to sit and chill, plus you can enjoy your cookie with an oat latte.
Cream Dream
- Location: Charing Cross
- Type: Patisserie with cakes and delicate desserts
- Diet: 100% vegan and gluten-free
Cream Dream is one of the most unique vegan bakeries you’ll find in London. Not only because of the very pink decor but because of their beautiful baked goods and Ukrainian cuisine.
You can expect cakes that have been created to look like lemons and jam jars as well as chocolate eclairs and fruit tarts. They also sell some savoury goods like Borsch, sandwiches, and dumplings.
They have plenty of indoor space including an upstairs room. So if you are hoping to find somewhere you can work or hang out with a large group of friends, this is the place!
Vida Bakery
- Location: Delivery only (within 25 miles of their bakery in Bermondsey)
- Type: Bakery selling cakes and cupcakes
- Diet: 100% vegan and gluten-free
Vida Bakery is something of a vegan baking institution in London! They used to have a great little cafe on Brick Lane, selling exclusively vegan and gluten-free cakes and cupcakes. They have unfortunately shut down, but you can still order their cakes online!
They sell whole celebration cakes in all kinds of flavours, including coconut caramel latte cake, red velvet cake, carrot cake, double chocolate cake, and much more. You can also order bespoke cakes that look however you want!
You have to order online to enjoy their cakes and they have multiple delivery options for you to choose from (but the more complicated the cake, the longer they may need). They deliver within 25 miles of their London bakery, but if you contact them they can arrange nationwide delivery. Check out these other vegan cake delivery services.
Crosstown
- Location: Many, including Soho, Marylebone, Brick Lane, and London Bridge
- Type: Sourdough doughnuts with vegan options
- Diet: Vegan-friendly
Unless they are really good, I don’t tend to include non-vegan establishments in my guides. And, well, these doughnuts are insanely good. They are in fact the best doughnuts I’ve ever had. They used to have a fully vegan venue but they recently changed it back to one of their ‘normal’ stores.
They usually have a core range of doughnuts on offer, including a vegan Sri Lanka cinnamon doughnut, a peanut butter and jam doughnut, and a cinnamon scroll doughnut, as well as seasonal rotations.
The best bit, you’ll be able to get these delivered to most places in London through Deliveroo. And they have locations all over London for whenever you need a doughnut fix on the go. And if you are outside of London you can order for nationwide delivery, although this won’t be delivered same day.
