Whether or not the city itself is vegan-friendly, the vegan options at the airport are typically dier or completely non-existent (although the UK is an exception). For example, Mexico City is fantastic for vegans, but Mexico City International Airport Benito Juárez is full of very meaty restaurants.
Particularly in Terminal 2, the main hub for Aeroméxico. The first few times I passed through Terminal 2 of MEX, I could only find snacks in the 7-Eleven, like peanuts and crisps.
Don’t get me wrong, I love peanuts, but they can’t replace a good meal. So the last few times I’ve passed through the airport, I’ve done some extra hunting for vegan food and found two pretty solid options.
So, if you are on the lookout for vegan food in T2 of Mexico City International Airport Benito Juárez (MEX), check these places out!

Vuela Carmela

Vuela Carmela is a sit-down restaurant with a takeaway counter located just around the corner from the main strip in Terminal 2. They offer a variety of Mexican dishes, with a few vegan options, plus a few veggie options which can be veganised.
I went for their coconut ‘meat’ tacos with beans and avocado in green salsa, which were pleasant. They could have done with some spice, but the dish was satisfying and just what I needed before my flight.
If you don’t have a good grasp of Spanish, the staff speak good English. Which is great if you want to veganise a veggie dish.
Ojo de Agua

Ojo de Agua is a Mexican chain restaurant with locations dotted across the country, including CDMX, Mérida and Monterrey. They also have a location inside Terminal 2 of the airport at CDMX.
They don’t have a huge vegan selection. Last time I was there, the only option was an acai bowl. But it was satisfying. It came topped with plenty of fruit, and I opted for peanut butter on top.
It was a light dish that kept me going for a short-haul flight. But I wouldn’t rely on it for a long journey!
Other options
If, for whatever reason, these vegan options don’t take your fancy, you can look for the following:
- Starbucks sometimes has a few vegan-friendly snack foods, like pre-cut fruit bowls and chocolate bars.
- Subway Mexico used to offer a vegan-friendly sub, but they no longer have it. They do have a veg sub, which never appeals to me, but if you order it without cheese and ask for vegan-friendly bread and sauce, then you’ll have a vegan vegetable sandwich. Yum, haha.
- 7-Eleven has a few vegan-friendly snacks if you can survive off peanuts and crisps!
