9 must-visit coffee shops in Hanoi

There are so many great coffee shops in Hanoi to choose from, so let me tell you my favourites. I’ve chosen a few different places in the hot spots around Hanoi.

If you are a coffee lover and you have found yourself in Hanoi, then you are in luck, because the Vietnamese know how to do coffee shops. With beautifully designed spaces and deliciously strong coffee, you’ll never want to go home.

My top picks

The majority of these coffee shops have a great selection of plant-based milks. If you are looking specifically for oat milk, then check out my oat milk in Hanoi guide.

A coffee on a table at la studio - one of the best coffee shops in Hanoi

La Studio

  • Location: 44 Ng.31 Đ. Xuân Diệu, Quảng An, Tây Hồ, Hà Nội, Vietnam
  • Work-friendly: Yes
  • Plant-based milk options: Oat, soya and almond milk

Lá Studio is a beautiful rustic vegan bakery and café located in the chilled out Tây Hồ area, West of the Old Quarter.

Every day they have a few different plant-based cakes on offer to eat alongside your coffee of choice. They have all the typical coffees, as well as some seasonal specials like a cinnamon roll latte (my favourite) and a pumpkin spiced latte.

It is situated inside a lovely old building with quirky old wooden furniture. It is a popular work spot, but beware it can get busy at the weekends.

A cup of coffee with a cat staring at it at Briefly on Earth - one of the best coffee shops in Hanoi

Briefly on Earth

  • Location: 3 P. Nguyễn Chế Nghĩa, Hàng Bài, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội, Vietnam
  • Work-friendly: Yes
  • Plant-based milk options: Oat milk

Briefly on Earth is a hip coffee shop situated underneath Hoàn Kiếm lake. It is worth a visit for the grumpy cat alone, but the coffee is also delicious.

They really know how to make a great flat white! The oat milk was really creamy and the coffee had a great kick.

It can get busy, but there are a few tables where you can work from. If you are there to chill then you can just sit and watch the cat as it causes havoc around the shop.

Two coffees on a balcony at The Little Plan Cafe - one of the best coffee shops in Hanoi

The Little Plan Cafe

  • Location: 11 Phủ Doãn Hà Nội Hanoi City, 110212, Vietnam
  • Work-friendly: Yes, but can get busy
  • Plant-based milk options: Oat milk

The Little Plan Café is located down a little dark alleyway in the Old Quarter of Hanoi. Climb up a few stairs and you’ll find yourself in a little quirky coffee haven.

If it isn’t too hot, sit out on their balcony and watch the world go by. The coffee is delicious and balanced in flavour.

It is a great place to chill and spend a few hours with a book, but you could also work from here.

A cup of coffee on a wooden table at Doppio - one of the best coffee shops in Hanoi

Caffe Doppio

  • Location: 94 Đ. Tô Ngọc Vân, Quảng An, Tây Hồ, Hà Nội, Vietnam
  • Work-friendly: Yes, but a little small inside
  • Plant-based milk options: Oat milk

Caffe Doppio is my favourite Sunday morning coffee spot. It is situated in Tây Hồ and so has a very chilled out vibe to it.

The coffee is great and the vibe is even better. It is small though, so you may struggle to get a seat during the weekend.

It is obviously a very popular spot amongst locals in the area, as well as the local expat community. But it is easy to see why, with its beautifully designed space and informal outdoor seating area – perfect for people watching!

A cup of a coffee on a dark wooden table at Tranquil Books and Coffee - one of the best coffee shops in Hanoi

Tranquil Books & Coffee

  • Location: 5 P. Nguyễn Quang Bích, Cửa Đông, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội, Vietnam
  • Work-friendly: Yes, but can get busy
  • Plant-based milk options: Oat milk

If you are looking for a quiet spot amongst the hustle and bustle of Hoàn Kiếm then you’ll enjoy Tranquil Books & Coffee. Their coffee shop is lined with books, including Vietnamese translated Harry Potter books and even some books in English.

It is a really quiet space that is perfect for reading or working in. If you prefer to have a conversation then you can use their outdoor seating instead.

You’ll find a lot of locals working and studying here, but it is also a great spot for chilling out in and resting your legs after a busy day exploring.

Two cups of coffee and water at Ru Mcafe - one of the best coffee shops in Hanoi

Ru.Mcafe

  • Location: 80 Đ. Tô Ngọc Vân, Quảng An, Tây Hồ, Hà Nội, Vietnam
  • Work-friendly: Yes
  • Plant-based milk options: Oat milk

Ru.Mcafe is a much larger and more spacious coffee shop located in Tây Hồ that is perfect for any remote workers.

All of the team here are really happy and friendly. They’ll go out of their way to ensure you get the coffee you are after! I haven’t had a bad coffee here, plus they do a great matcha latte for whenever you need a break from coffee.

Top tip: If you love flat whites and you’re tired of being served lattes instead, then you can ask the manager here to make you a ‘proper’ flat white. He has the know-how!

A cup of iced coffee at Hidden Alley - one of the best coffee shops in Hanoi

Hidden Alley

  • Location: No. 9B P. Báo Khánh, Hàng Trống, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội 100000, Vietnam
  • Work-friendly: Yes, but a little dark inside
  • Plant-based milk options: Oat milk

This rather dark and mysterious coffee shop is located in a hidden alley, hence it’s name. But don’t worry they have made some obvious sign posts outside the alleyway for you to find it.

Once you get upstairs you’ll enter their main café which has late night bar vibes. It is really chilled and is a great spot for taking moody photographs.

They also have a lovely chilled out rooftop where you’ll find a lot of locals hanging out at the weekends.

A cup of iced coffee infront of two glasses of water and matcha at FUKU Coffee - one of the best coffee shops in Hanoi

FUKU Coffee

  • Location: 172 P. Quán Thánh, Quán Thánh, Ba Đình, Hà Nội 100000, Vietnam
  • Work-friendly: Potentially
  • Plant-based milk options: Oat milk

FUKU Coffee is one of those places that know how to make the most out of their space. They have lined their hidden courtyard balcony with seats so that you can enjoy being outside nestled amongst the plants.

They also have some indoor seating which is designed with a very modern wooden feel. It is a little on the small side, but you may get away with working inside there.

What with it being located near to a few of the touristy hot spots, like the Presidential Palace, this is great space to relax in whilst sightseeing. Their iced coffees are well balanced and really refreshing.

A large glass of iced coffee at Eland Coffee - one of the best coffee shops in Hanoi

Eland Coffee

  • Location: 171 P. Nhật Chiêu, Nhật Tân, Tây Hồ, Hà Nội, Vietnam
  • Work-friendly: Yes
  • Plant-based milk options: Oat and almond milk

For those of you taking the day out shopping at Lotte West, you’ll be happy to discover this really chilled out coffee shop, Eland Coffee. It is located about 5 minutes walk away from the mall, and it is a great spot to rest up in after walking around all the shops.

They have quite a few spaces for you to sit in, including a balcony level, an outdoor courtyard and indoors. Their outdoor spaces are great for people watching!

The coffees are huge and they taste great. I also like that they have a range of different plant-based milks for you to choose from.
